The independent woman—locus of control and female labor force participation

Abstract This paper contributes to the research on heterogeneity in labor force participation decisions between women. is done by discussing role of personality trait locus control (LOC), a measure an individual’s belief about causal relationship behavior and life outcomes, for differences probabilities. The association LOC tested using German survey data, finding that internal women are average 13 percent more likely participate force. These findings also found translate into higher employment probabilities at extensive intensive margin as well lifetime perspective. Additional analyses identify strong with respect underlying monetary constraints social working norms. In line existing literature, important independence preferences subjective beliefs returns investments proposed theoretical explanations findings.
